Children’s Alliance names Rep. Maureen Walsh a 2015 ‘Champion for Children’
Rep. Maureen Walsh, R-Walla Walla, was named a “Champion for Children” by the Children’s Alliance this year for her work during the 2015 session. The award is given to 10 lawmakers each year for their outstanding service to children in a particular policy area.
The Children’s Alliance specifically applauded Walsh for playing a key role in the passage of the Early Start Act during the 2015 legislative session. The act improves early learning and child care requirements and objectives, while increasing transparency between providers, families and the state.
“I am so honored to receive this award, and proud of the tremendous efforts being made to promote quality early learning in our state,” said Walsh. “This year, the Legislature demonstrated an important bipartisan commitment to kids and parents with the passage of the Early Start Act. This legislation helps strengthen families by empowering parents to be their kids’ first and best teachers, and is an investment in education that is showing a great return.”
Walsh serves as the ranking member on the House Early Learning and Human Services Committee, which covers issues related to early learning from birth to kindergarten, parent education, child welfare services and more.
