Walsh, Nealey plan telephone town hall next week

Sixteenth District state representatives Maureen Walsh and Terry Nealey will be hosting a telephone town hall with constituents March 17.

The hour-long call is much like a talk radio show where people can simply listen or ask questions of their representatives. Those who wish to participate may call on Thursday, March 17 starting at 6:30 p.m. The toll-free number is (877) 229-8493, then callers will need to enter pin number 15516.

“This is a great way to connect with folks back home while in Olympia, and I think it's more convenient for them to participate,” said Walsh, R-Walla Walla. “There are a lot of important decisions being made right now, and hearing from the people we represent is of utmost importance.”

In the 2010 session, the lawmakers hosted a telephone town hall with great constituent involvement. More than 500 people were on the call at one point, and 71 people had questions for the representatives.

“It is important for people to know how their Legislature is responding to the issues that could affect them, including the budget. They also want to know what we're doing to get Washington working again,” said Nealey, R-Dayton. “Although we have some significant proposals to address our state's challenges, citizen input is vital to the legislative process. Before we take votes and make decisions in the final weeks of the session that could affect our 16th District residents, we want to hear from them. So we encourage everyone to join in our community conversation.”

The legislators can be reached in Olympia during session by phone toll-free at (800) 562-6000. Walsh can be reached directly at (360) 786-7836 or by e-mail at maureen.walsh@leg.wa.gov. Nealey can be contacted directly at (360) 786-7828 or by e-mail at terry.nealey@leg.wa.gov.
