Walsh honored by statewide foster parents group

16th District representative has championed legislation supporting stable foster families for children
Rep. Maureen Walsh, R-Walla Walla, was honored Jan. 18 at the Foster Parents Association of Washington State’s (FPAWS) “Night of 1000 Dreams” event. She was chosen as one of two “elected officials of the year” for being “supportive of foster parents legislatively, as well as personally,” according to the organization.
“I am honored to be recognized by FPAWS and I’m committed to continue to fight for our children and healthy families,” Walsh said. “There is much more to be done in our foster care system to ensure that we are making the right decisions for children and families across our state. Many of them are in extremely difficult situations and I hold foster parents in the highest regard for what they do.”
Walsh shares the award with Rep. Ruth Kagi, chair of the Early Learning and Children’s Services Committee.
“Though the ultimate goal is seeing that all parents are able to be successful in raising their own children, improving the quality of life for foster children and supporting the admirable people who care for them is near and dear to my heart,” Walsh said. “They open their homes and their hearts to support those kids who are going through some tough times and need someone to give them a stable home life.”
According to its Web site, FPAWS “supports, educates and advocates for foster, adoptive and kinship families all year round.”
